Muscle food. Brain food. Gut food.

Muscle food

Muscles are made up of amino acids, the molecules you get when you break protein down. So to build, repair or replenish muscles you need to take amino acids, protein. To save you reliving your GCSE biology class, in a nutshell, there are 20 amino acids, 9 of which you need to get from food as your body doesn’t make them. These are called essential amino acids. Several amino acids, in particular, are responsible for building muscle. Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine and Lysine in particular.

We have 5.04g of Leucine, 2.67g of isoleucine and 3.13g of Valine per 100g of our NAKED 00 powder. So if you’re in need of replenishing on your hike up Mount Kilimanjaro, HIIT session or yoga class we have all the essential proteins you need and more to maintain, restore and replenish pure muscle.

Brain food

Some of us are all brawn and others like to work out their brain a little more than their body. Brain fog anyone?! Of course, both is a bonus but if you’re in need of a little boost in the cognitive department in the office the morning after ‘work drinks’ or perhaps you’ve been up with the kids all night but still need to be focused for a presentation the following day.

The organic ingredients in Supernova Powders can make a significant difference. From the personal experience of co-founder Jermaine Beckford, “Supernova Protein significantly improved my concentration, focus, stamina and endurance in training and a game situation. From my experience, very little focus is given to natural products that can help the mind in football which is a huge part of the game. I genuinely feel with so much light currently on mental health issues it’s an area that could be significantly developed in football and perhaps all sports.”

David Wolfe states that “ashwagandha supports the immune system to promote a healthy body and mind. It’s also believed to help reduce stress and prevent the deterioration of brain cells. The brain-boosting properties of ashwagandha provide mental clarity and improved cognitive performance”. Mindbodygreen.com say adaptogens “help support the body’s response to stress and it’s ability to naturally cope with occasional anxiety and normal fatigue—slowly and gently, without jolts or crashes”

Gut food

Another increasingly covered topic in current media is our guts. Still feeling a bit taboo on the topic?! Guts-there it is, not the sexiest word or subject but it’s real and there really shouldn’t be any stigma attached. Everyone has a digestive system and we should focus on it otherwise you won’t be laughing if it does get out of balance. Did you know that “95% of all serotonin, the happy hormone, lives in the gut, not the brain” says the naturalsociety.com. Our raw organic agave inulin acts as a prebiotic feeding the existing good bacteria in the digestive system without interrupting the delicate bacterial balance.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) around 65% of us have some trouble digesting lactose after infancy. Plenty of people who aren’t severely allergic to milk products still have issues digesting them, and may also be sensitive to their various components. When you don’t properly digest lactose, “the undigested sugars end up in the colon, where they begin to ferment, producing gas that can cause cramping, bloating, nausea, flatulence and diarrhoea,” reported USA Today.

Pea and brown rice proteins are the most hypoallergenic proteins making them much easier to digest. Plus the fermentation of our pea protein ensures it’s even easier for your systems to break down. With gut cleanser psyllium husk in the Woman 01 powder along with soothing aloe vera, we’ve ensured we’re really giving your intestines a helping hand. Our feedback regarding reduction in bloating, cramping, diarrhoea or constipation has been incredible!! Who says it’s just a protein powder!!?!
